One of the Circularity Foundation’s active projects is the Zero Waste Information Network, or ‘ZWIN’. This information network is intended to connect and support individuals and organisations who are keen to share knowledge and understandings, critique waste and resource strategies and operational practices, and support collaborative actions.
The subject area is vast, encompassing factual information about resource and waste management, and strategies designed to promote the transition from linear to a more circular economy. It is only through collaboration that we can meet the challenges of tracking the data, critically reviewing the information, and formulating and enacting responses – all as part of our shared learning journey.
Our ZWIN pilot project will test our thinking and help us to refine our methodology, drawing upon our knowledge and that of the community of interest that includes the anti-incineration movement in England (for starters). Our vision is to continue our learning and sharing across the zero waste spectrum, working with community experts in areas such as plastics, textiles, and food waste.
The Circularity Foundation’s vision is for those involved in ZWIN to collate national, regional, and local-level zero waste information to share via a Zero Waste Wiki archive of ‘really useful knowledge’ about how resources and waste are currently being managed, to help inform potential improvements to the resource and waste management system.
ZWIN participants will be provided with guidance about various data sources and how to use these resources to gather and share zero waste information, as well as support to critically assess and to make use of this information to inform actions at local, regional, and national levels.
